About Cozy AC and Heating

A hands-on HVAC operation based in Sarasota, FL. Residential and commercial. Flat-rate pricing. We do the work ourselves and stand behind it.

Who We Are and How We Operate

Cozy AC and Heating is a hands-on HVAC operation based in Sarasota, Florida. We're not a franchise, not a call center dispatching technicians you've never met, and not a company that grew so fast the quality of the actual work stopped mattering. We do the work ourselves. When something goes wrong — and in this industry, things occasionally go wrong — we're accountable for it and we fix it.

We started this business because we saw how HVAC service was typically done and knew we could do it better: show up when we say we will, tell the customer what's actually wrong, give them a real price before we start, and do the work correctly. That's not a complicated standard, but it's one a surprising number of companies don't meet consistently.

Our approach to pricing is flat-rate, not hourly. You get a complete price for the job before we start — parts and labor included. There are no hourly billing surprises where a job that was supposed to take two hours takes four and the invoice doubles. We price the job, we do the job, and the invoice matches the quote.

Residential and Commercial — Both

Most HVAC companies lean one direction or the other. We operate on both sides because the work genuinely overlaps and because being able to handle commercial jobs makes us better residential technicians — the diagnostic and engineering skills you develop working on commercial systems translate directly to more accurate residential diagnosis.

On the residential side, we handle everything from a quick capacitor swap in a 1,200-square-foot condo to a multi-zone replacement in a 5,000-square-foot home. We service older homes in Bradenton with original ductwork, high-end new construction in Lakewood Ranch with variable-speed systems and smart thermostats, and everything in between. We know Florida's housing stock and size equipment correctly for it.

On the commercial side, we've worked in restaurant kitchens, bars, motels, and medical facilities. We understand what continuous commercial operation requires in terms of equipment selection, maintenance schedules, and response time. We're currently active in the commercial HVAC bidding process for significant facility work including a veterans hospital project in the area — the documentation requirements, insurance requirements, and technical standards for that level of project reflect real commercial HVAC capability.

"Stay Cozy. Whatever the season." — Whether it's 95°F in August or 42°F in January, your HVAC system should work. We make sure it does.

We pull permits when required, commission systems correctly, and don't cut corners that create problems for you six months later.

How We Think About HVAC in Florida

Florida is not a typical HVAC market. The AC runs 10 to 12 months a year, which means a system here accumulates operating hours at roughly twice the rate of the same equipment in a northern climate. Maintenance that's annual in most states should be twice-yearly here. Equipment that's rated for 15-year service life under average usage will hit that number faster in Florida's continuous cooling season.

Florida also has specific problems other states don't deal with at the same scale: drain line algae growth from continuous humidity condensation, condenser coil corrosion from coastal salt air, and oversizing problems that result in systems that cool but never properly dehumidify because they short-cycle before pulling moisture out of the air. These aren't exotic failure modes — they're the reality of running HVAC equipment in this climate, and they require technicians who understand them, not just technicians who can swap parts.

We tell customers what their system actually needs, not what generates the most revenue for us. If a repair is the right call, we say so. If a replacement makes more financial sense, we explain why. We've found that being straight with people builds the kind of trust that generates repeat business and referrals — which is more valuable long-term than squeezing an extra repair out of a system that should be replaced.

Our Commercial Background

Commercial HVAC requires a different mindset than residential. A restaurant that loses its AC on a Saturday night doesn't just have an uncomfortable building — it has a potential health code issue, guests who won't come back, and Yelp reviews that last for years. A motel with failed room AC has guests demanding refunds and a property manager getting calls at midnight. These aren't theoretical stakes — they're what our commercial clients deal with when equipment fails, and they're why we treat commercial calls with the urgency they deserve.

We've worked in active commercial kitchens, designed makeup air systems for restaurants, serviced motel PTAC banks, and now we're in the process of bidding significant medical facility work. That range of commercial experience is what separates a real commercial HVAC contractor from a residential company that occasionally takes commercial calls.
